The history
from Kasteel Limbricht
Limbricht Castle has a rich history that goes back to before 1100, when the first motte and bailey castle with a wooden tower was built here. Around 1200, this was replaced by a stone keep, the remnants of which are still visible in the cellar. In 1622, Baron Nicolaas van Breyll had the current Renaissance castle built, followed by the bailey. The castle has known turbulent times, from witch trials to a field hospital for Napoleon's soldiers. Limbricht Castle Foundation bought the castle in 1955 and the castle was thoroughly restored. Today it is a vibrant estate with a restaurant, function rooms, landscaped park and boutique hotel. Want to know more about the history? Since 2017, Limbricht Castle has been operated by the Entertrain Group, led by entrepreneur Igor Stel. This gave the centuries-old castle a new chapter: a place where history and contemporary hospitality reinforce each other. What was once a quiet heritage location has now grown into a vibrant centre of culinary experiences, events, weddings and corporate gatherings.
